Ah The Weather Man Was Right!!!!

This morning I pulled my suv out of the garage, it was 70 degrees outside. while I was watching tv earlier the weather man had reported that the weather would be changing rapidly and by tonight it would be in the mid to upper twenties. Well I took my heavy coat just in case the weather man was right. To my surprise the weather in Oklahoma city had reached a chilly, cloudy and windy 33 degrees by noon and by the time I left work at 4:00pm cst it was a chilling 29 degrees. It was dry outside but the weather man had predicted a cold icy night with temperatures in the low twenties. I went home changed into my warm sweats and settled down to watch the news. I must have dozed off into a very sound sleep because the next thing I remember was being awaken by the sounds of ice hitting my window. I hurried to the window to look out. It was black dark but you could hear the sound of the wind and icy rain hitting the trees, the grass and the house. The street and grass glistened from the icy rain. I got my camera, went into the garage and opened the door. I smiled as I walked down the drive way taking pictures of our first winter mix. I thought to myself AH The weatherman was right!

The Miracle of Our Body

If you lined up all your veins and arteries end to end, they would stretch 70,000 miles. That’s long enough to wrap around the world three times.

The blood inside your body is actually blue. It turns red when it mixes with oxygen. That’s what happens when you cut yourself and bleed. When you sneeze, the air rushes out of your mouth at 100 miles per hour.

That’s as fast as the winds of a hurricane. When you are resting, the air you breathe passes through your nose at about four miles per hour. At this rate, you breathe more than 400 gallons of air every hour.

The average human body has 20 square feet of skin, 9,000 taste buds, 5 million hairs, and 13 billion nerve cells. The average human heart beats about 100,000 times every 24 hours.

During a 72-year lifetime, the heart beats more than 2.5 billion times. The blood of a human being makes a complete circuit of the body every 23 seconds. There are more signal connections in the human brain than there would be in a telephone exchange connecting everyone on earth.

We blink an average of 15,000 times a day, each one lasting roughly 1/10th of a second. That’s about an hour and 15 minutes each day we spend with our eyes partly or completely closed.

Menopause Study

For Black women who are interested in contributing to reseach on Menopause
Here's your opportunity to participate in a study.

Dear Nushape Publication,

I am a research assistant at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. I am responsible for the recruitment of African American women between the ages of 40-60 for a national internet-based menopause study. The reason why the study is so important is because the majority of the information about menopausal symptoms and treatments is based on white women participating in studies. Clinicians need to know more about the menopausal experience of women of other races so they can find better treatments for these symptoms. This study provides that opportunity.

I believe your organization may be able to help my group in two ways:
1) Since it is an internet-based study, if your organization is able to post the study's announcement, which I have attached, please let me know. Or if you are able to promote participation for the study in some other way please let me know. Please make me aware of any fees that may be associated with announcing our study.
2) If you have any other suggestions about how we can disseminate information to African American woman on a national scale, such as through conferences, women's expos, other organizations, etc., please let me know.

I am so happy to know that there are organizations like your's informing Black women about different health issues. Your efforts are appreciated. I hope to hear from you soon.
